Music Classes Available at Presque Isle High School
Credit in any of the following courses may be applied to meeting the fine arts requirement.
APPLIED MUSIC THEORY THROUGH GUITAR (1/2 Credit) Grades 10--12
This course will teach the concepts of musical notation and application through the use of guitars. Bass, electric and acoustic guitars will be used and must be supplied by the student. Individual progress will be charted with proficiency exams. Home practice is required. All styles of music will be played as well as performed throughout the course duration. No prior musical experience required.
APPLIED MUSIC THEORY THROUGH KEYBOARDING (1/2 Credit) Grades 10--12
This course will teach the concepts of musical notation and application through the use of keyboards. Individual progress will be charted through written and proficiency exams. All styles of music will be played including rock, jazz, and classical. No prior musical experience required.
BAND (1 Credit) Grades 9--12
The band is a well-balanced instrumental performing organization open to all students. Full band is held Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Partial Band is held Tuesday and Thursday opposite full Chorus. Individuals may pursue higher musical experiences by auditioning for regional and state
music festivals. The band performs at home basketball and ice hockey games, concerts, assemblies, and parades. Students with no previous band experience are welcome to join after an audition/meeting with the Director.
BAND/CHORUS (1 credit) Grades 9--12
This is a unique opportunity for a music enthusiast to enjoy both Band and Chorus. Students enrolled in Band/Chorus will attend Band rehearsal on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Chorus rehearsal on Tuesday and Thursday.
CHORUS (1 Credit) Grades 9--12
The chorus is a vocal ensemble open to all students. Students enjoy the study of music from all periods of music history in varying styles, including Classical, Folk, Spirituals, and Contemporary. An emphasis is also placed on exploring good vocal techniques and music reading skills. The chorus typically performs many evening concerts throughout the school year. Members of the Chorus are also encouraged to pursue extra musical experiences such as Show Choir, Jazz Choir, All-Aroostook, All-State, and Solo & Ensemble. Full chorus is held Tuesday and Thursday. Partial chorus is held Monday, Wednesday and Friday opposite full Band.
PERCUSSIVE ARTS LEAGUE (1/2 Credit) OFFERED 2nd SEMESTER Grades 10--12
P.A.L explores the fascinating world of drumming. This hands-on experience will allow both the novice and accomplished musician the opportunity to perform on a myriad of percussive instruments. The highlight of the course is a performance for fellow classmates during school hours
