Alternative Education in MSAD#1 |
|
|
Presque Isle Alternative High School was put into action to assist students who were, for any variety of reasons, unable to be successful in a mainstreamed classroom setting. It is an accredited high school program that offers PIHS students educational support resulting in the opportunity to earn credits towards a high school diploma. Students need to be referred by themselves, a parent or guardian, or a staff member of PIHS. Acceptance into the program is based on the student's academic and behavioral history, which comes from a variety of sources including but not limited to teachers, guidance counselors, social workers, probation officers and school administrators. The program is not intended to remove those students who are seen as behavior problems or substance abusers. The goals of the program include completing credits towards a high school diploma, developing skills need to succeed in regular education, returning to the regular high school program when appropriate, developing life and job skills enabling students to lead productive lives and become assets to the community, thus increasing self-confidence through success. |
