MSAD#1 Students Participate in Career Exploration Day

Presque Isle High School students recently had an opportunity to step out of the classroom and into the workplace for MSAD#1's annual Sophomore Career Exploration Day. On the job at Whited Ford
Under the hood of a truck at Whited Ford, this sophomore got a glimpse of what it's like to be a mechanic.
On the job at S.W. Collins
Gaye Richards of S.W. Collins provided a look into the world of home design. Students toured the store to learn about typical building materials, learned how computer software is used in building design and visited a job site to see a work in progress.
The day is designed to give students a first-hand look at what happens in the workplace and what employees look for in the people they hire.
The annual event is a half-day activity coordinated by MSAD#1 Volunteer Services and the Guidance Department, and involves about 80 local businesses. Students are matched with mentors based on their career interests. On the job at PIPD
At the Presque Isle Police Deptartment, Officer Theriault mentored a couple of students, showing them around the station and taking them along on patrol.
On the job at Smythe's Prescription Shoppe
Looking on as a student helps count out pills is Pharmacist Brett Felpy of the Prescription Shoppe. Two girls spent the morning with him, learning about the pharmacutical world.
About seventy local businesses participated in this year's event, providing a wide variety of learning opportunities for students in MSAD#1.
Students completed written reports on the day's experiences, and sent thank you notes to their mentors. On the job at Netherlands
Two students visited Netherland Office Products to learn about computer programming.
