Aslaug and her mother, Maren, lived apart from the world;knowing the plants around their home, gathering the helpful ones and avoiding the dangerous. When Maren succumbs to her cancer, Aslaug goes in search of the only other family she knows. Her aunt and cousins welcome her into their Pentecostal church community, but what she encounters there threatens her sanity, her fragile sense of reality, and perhaps even her freedom.
