Mission
Our mission at Presque Isle Pre-K is to provide a comprehensive and effective early intervention program for four-year-olds in a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment. Our program fosters children's physical, social, emotional, language development and general learning processes. We provide opportunities for children to make choices and decisions, create, interact, play, communicate, and discover. Most importantly we want them to have fun, make new friends, and develop a love for learning at school.
Program Framework The MSAD#1 Pre-K Program is designed for four year old children. Your child is eligible for our program if he or she turns four before October 15th, as required by state regulations. Our program is intended to service students for one year. If space is available, five year olds will be accepted with preference given to those who have not previously attended the Pre-K program in MSAD#1. Our Pre-K Program uses the High/Scope Curriculum as the framework of our classroom program. Children are encouraged to make choices about materials and activities throughout the day. In making these choices the children explore, ask and answer questions, solve problems, and interact with their peers and adults. Developmentally appropriate activities are planned to encourage and build on childrens existing strengths and abilities by focusing on specific key experiences.
The key experiences that provide an active learning approach to stimulate and promote childrens development are grouped into ten (10) categories: Creative Representation, Language and Literacy, Initiative and Social Relations, Movement, Music, Classification, Seriation, Number, Space, Time Daily Routine
Pre-K students attend school for four half-day sessions per week, Monday through Thursday. Our daily routine provides a variety of interactions between children and adults. The consistent daily routine assists children to anticipate what happens next and also promotes a safe and secure feeling. A major element of the day is our plan-do-review. Children are allowed to plan, carry out their plan, and then reflect on the results. The daily routine also includes small and large group experiences. For more detailed information on our daily schedule, click here.
