Volunteers
are the Heart of America - We Salute and Thank Them.
ABOUT
THE PROGRAM
As a volunteer,
you are assisting the staff in their daily effort to provide the best
possible educational experiences for each child in the school. It is
the intent of our district to use volunteers to enhance our educational
programs. As a volunteer, you are a valuable special resource for classroom
support and enrichment.

A
NOTE FOR PARENTS
 |
MSAD#1
provides many wonderful experiences for your child. We invite
you to be an active participant in this process by becoming a
parent volunteer. If you work during the school day, there are
still many ways that you can help. You could volunteer for evening
activities such as calling committees, clerical work, chaperoning,
etc. Also, you could invite a grandparent or other relative to
become involved. Volunteering is a rewarding experience and you
can really make a difference. |
A
NOTE FOR BUSINESSES
We
are extremely proud of our many business partnerships in MSAD#1.
We have nearly 100 businesses and business personnel who assit
us with our annual PIHS
Job Shadowing Program and over 50 businesses participate in
our PIHS Goldcat Card Program. In addition, we invite several
business people to present workshops at our annual PIHS Work Ethics
Program. Several area businesses encourage their employees to
tutor and mentor in our schools. Also, many of our classroom have
Business Lunch Buddies. Monetary donations are often given to
assist our students with special projects and trips. These are
just a few examples of how our business community is a major influence
on the educational experiences that prepare our youth for the
future work force. If you are an established partner, we thank
you for all you do. If you are not yet playing an active role
in our educational system, please consider joining a growing number
of people who are making a difference. |

A
NOTE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
"The
miracle is this - the more we share, the more we have. "
We invite
our seniors to use their life skills to answer the call of our youth
in need. We will try to match you to a volunteer project that draws
on your strengths and interests and supports you in making a difference.
Volunteers work on a wide range of issues and topics including:
-
Volunteers
help our school children build skills and work as classroom aides,
educational support staff, tutors and mentors;
-
Volunteers
help under privileged children keep warm by knitting or crocheting
cold-weather clothing including hats, scarves, mittens, sweaters,
and children's clothing.
WHY
SHOULD I VOLUNTEER?
“Volunteering
is the perfect opportunity to learn something new.”
-
Meet
new and interesting people.
-
Studies
have shown long lasting health benefits from volunteering. It keeps
you young!
-
No prior
experience necessary! Your lifetime of experience makes volunteering
work.
-
If you
are newly retired, volunteering can help you to make the transition
from the 9 to 5 work week.
We are extremely
proud of our senior volunteers. We work closely with our local Retired
Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in trying to fill some of our special
requests. We hope that you will consider volunteering by contacting
your local RSVP or our Volunteer Office at M.S.A.D. #1.
A
NOTE FOR STUDENTS
We encourage
all of you to explore ways to become involved by volunteering within
your school and community. Many of our students already volunteer by
tutoring, mentoring, working at TAMC, assisting our main offices, assisting
special projects such as the Spring Art Show, etc. The opportunities
are endless. Through volunteering, you will gain confidence, communication
skills, and job skills. Volunteer service is self-rewarding and the
benefits to the school and community are immeasurable. Please consider
joining that group of young people who are making a difference.
