
Dear MSAD #1 Community,
Earlier this morning Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) was put in a lockdown. MSAD #1 officials have been in contact with NMCC officials and local law enforcement. We have been informed that the situation that led to the lockdown of NMCC has been addressed, isolated, and under control. There is no threat to any of our students or staff at this time.

REMINDER: There is no school on Monday, October 9th in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day and no school on Tuesday, October 10th due to a teacher professional development day.


Dear Students, Parents, and Staff,
I'm writing to make you aware of a threat made involving a student at Zippel Elementary School. Local law enforcement has been made aware of and investigated the threat and found the threat not to be credible. School will go on as normal tomorrow, Tuesday, October 3 as there is no threat to the safety of the students and staff at Zippel Elementary School. Thank you to those who reached out to local law enforcement and MSAD #1 administration to make us aware of this incident.

PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Please check your email for information about the MSAD #1 Influenza Vaccination Clinics and to fill out the health screen & permission form for your student(s). Call the Health Office with any questions: 764-8105

Dr. Kelly Chandler-Olcott is a proud graduate of Presque Isle High School class of 1988. She also holds the following degrees:
AB degree in History & Literature from Harvard College,
Master of Education in Teaching & Curriculum from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Doctor of Education in Literacy Education from the University of Maine.
Dr. Chandler-Olcott is currently the Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence and the dean of the School of Education at Syracuse University. She is a former high school English and social studies teacher, she has taught literacy courses to aspiring classroom teachers for more than 25 years. With support from the National Science Foundation, the International Reading Association, and the Spencer Foundation, Dr. Chandler-Olcott has published seven books and more than 120 book chapters, articles, and editorials. Her scholarship has been recognized with the International Literacy Association’s Computers in Reading Research Award (2019) and the Divergent Book Award for Excellence in 21st Century Literacies Research (2021). She served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Literacy Research Association from 2010 to 2013 and co-edited Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy from 2015-2021.
Principal Bartlett said, “We are honored to have Dr. Kelly Chandler-Olcott as the keynote speaker at the Presque Isle High School Class of 2023 commencement. Her connection to the MSAD 1 community and the field of education, provides her with a unique perspective of our graduates. I am sure she will have a message that our students will benefit from.”
The 2023 ceremony is set for Saturday, June 10 at 4:00 PM at the Dr. Gehrig T. Johnson Athletic Complex, weather permitting. A ticket is required.
